Living with Anxiety

Sometimes experiencing anxiety is perfectly normal; feeling anxious in situations that would normally produce anxiety is a perfectly healthy reaction. However, there are also times when certain individuals experience unnecessary anxiety, and such experiences can produce harmful psychological and physical effects on individual. Nevertheless, learning how to properly cope with anxiety can help everyone reduce the unpleasant symptoms that are associated with anxiety; symptoms at include abdominal pain and discomfort, dry mouth, heartbeat trouble or heart palpitations, chest pains, hyperventilation or shortness of breath, headaches, migraines, and excessive sweating. Further, the onset of anxiety also has significant psychological effects including the loss of the ability to concentrate, irritability, the loss of sufficient sleep, and loss in one sense of security.

There are a number of different ways to cope with anxiety. By taking advantage of the different ways of coping with anxiety, individuals can reduce the baneful side-effects that anxiety often produces. First, any activity that gives one a sense of relaxation can help alleviate the symptoms of anxiety. Yoga, meditation, visualization exercises, moderate exercise, or even artistic endeavors can help individuals focus their minds on the task before them and consequently, cause the individual to refrain from thinking about the event or circumstance that produced the anxiety in the first place. Secondly, individuals that experience extreme bouts of anxiety can serve themselves well by entering into some professional counseling. Counseling sessions will allow the individual to discuss what produces their anxiety and they can also discuss techniques that will help them manage or cope. Meanwhile, a counselor can determine if the anxiety that the individual experiences is an anxiety disorder that requires treatment with various medications created to reduce the symptoms of anxiety.
